Ito ang una kong blog sa taong 2011. Ang taon kung saan nagka tsunami sa Japan. Libo-libong buhay ang binawi, at milyon-milyong ari-arian ang nawala. Ito ang taon kung saan tinapos ni dating Sec. Reyes ang kaniyang buhay. Ito ang taon kung saan natalo ang Barangay Ginebra sa Semifinals laban sa San Miguel Beer sa All-Filipino Conference. Ito ang taon kung saan mas lalo kong nasilayan ang kagandahan ni Jennifer Lopez sa pamamagitan ng American Idol. Ngunit ito rin ang taon kung saan gumuho ang mga pangarap ng maraming taong nag audition sa nasabing palatuntunan. At marahil, ito rin ang taon kung saan magtatapos ang Immortal. Siguro, magkakaroon na kami ng mas mahabang panahon para mag-usap at magsama ni Angel L.

Ayon sa mga hula, ang mundo ay magwawakas sa 12-21-12. Sino ba sila para malaman ang katapusan ng daigdig? Ayon sa Bibliya, walang sino man ang nakakaalam kung kailan ang katapusan ng mundo, maliban sa Diyos. Ngunit kung hindi sila naniniwala, maniwala na lang sila sa integral calculus na inilathala sa wikang Pilipino. Kailan nga ba nagsimula ang 2011? Saan nga ba tayo patungo?

Para sa iba, sa taong 2011 rin nagtapos ang isang kwento ng pag-ibig. Maraming malulungkot na pangyayari ang naganap. Tulad ko, at tulad ng maraming tao na may pusong punet-punet, ay naghihintay ng isang bagong mabuting magaganap. C’mon please tell me, would it be a better place for me if I go?

Pagdating sa bahay, binasa ko ang mga bagong libro na aking nabili. Naaliw ako sa pagbabasa, ngunit sadyang hindi ko mapigilan ang antok. Hindi pa takdang oras para matulog. Dilat pa kasi ang aparador, at ang ilaw maitim pa. pinaandar ko ang ipod, nakinig ng mga paborito kong kanta. Hudyat ng umpisa ng rock-rockan sa sarili kong kama. Tatlong mahuhusay na libro ang nabili ko sa NBS. Ibat-ibang genre. Binili ko ang “Like the Flowing River” ni Paulo Coelho. Sadyang marami kang matutohan sa mga sinulat ni Coelho, talagang artistic at poetic siya kung magsulat, ngunit ang pinakamahalaga ay ang mensahe na gusto niyang iparating. Bumili din ako ng self-help book na may pamagat na “You Are What You Think” na sinulat ni David Stoop, isang Clinical Psychologist. Sabi niya, ang ugali daw ng isang tao ay hinugis ng mga pangyayari na dumating sa kanyang buhay. Bumili din ako ng “Fairy Tales”, dahil gusto kong balikan ang dating mundo, at pansamantalang makalimutan ang kasalukuyan (joke). Ngunit higit sa lahat, gusto ko itong ipabasa sa aking labing-isang taong-gulang na pamangkin. Hindi ko pa sila mababasa sa ngayon, dahit heto, umuungol ang malakas na musika. Rock-rockan na.

Here I Go Again

After two months of living and dying, here I go again, having the courage to stretch my mind out. From the wonderful world of disguises, to the mundane walks of love, I have my HBW ballpen running on these scratch papers. I am trying to utilize the back of these so-called obsolete papers to write what’s inside my mind, and what’s lurking in my soul. Then came the question of what’s the glory in writing and expressing my feelings. I remember the words of poets and writers that the phrases they leave will last forever. Time will come that the future generation will use these as the norm for living, as cure for one’s empty soul, and inspiration for weary heart. I likewise hope that someday my writings would be recognized, in time when ants control the universe.

Krazela treated me a pizza at Yellow Cab. From Torres St., we took a Blue Taxi towards Damosa Gateway. We ordered 10” Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza, and two glasses of softdrinks. She wanted to have spaghetti too, but I declined. That day, Krazela was wearing an orange PinkSoda t-shirt, and I had my black PickledBlue longsleeves. We talked of various topics, from grass to gold. We discussed about fish dealership business, such as tuna and blue marlin. We talked about alcoholic drinks like White Castle, Red Horse, and The Bar. She likes Novelino red wine, mine Carlo Rossi. A man selling orange fruits passed across the street where we eat. After the treat, we went to Chimes ‘coz she wanted to make used of her free Red Ribbon gift coupon. Her little daughters have been craving for it. At the jeepney, I saw yellow ribbon sticker. Then I remembered a friend residing at Green Meadows who wants Noynoy to win the presidency. At home, as I went to sleep, and closed my eyes, obscurity interfere my confused mind. My soul became gray, and the environment turned black. The colors were gone. I partially opened my eyes, all I saw was my pale blue pillow. I sat down and pray, then asked God to allow me live another day, to embrace the colors of life.

Monday, 10am, my new iphone rang. It was a call from ABS saying that they will include me in PBB Double-Up even without undergoing audition and going through the other usual processes. I refused. I told the caller, “I don’t want popularity”. In the next day, while I was driving my Toyota FT-TS since my pink Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X had an engine trouble, I spotted Michelle Madrigal dining at Greenbelt. I decided to drop-by. We called Kim Chiu and Gerald A. so we could take our lunch together. Wednesday night, I dated Rhian Ramos. She told me that she couldn’t believe I invited her. She taught that Heart Evangelista and I were already engaged. I told her it was a mere publicity. In a Thursday morning, I was shaking hands with Kris, as she interviewed me for the program “The Buzz”. I was then defending my friend Borgy Manotoc to that incident happened at The Embassy last Tuesday night. I stressed to Kris that it wasn’t Borgy’s fault. Friday night, I was partying with Richard Guttierez, Tim Yap, and Anne Curtis at the Fort. It was a fun and relaxing gimik after a week of handling my businesses and other unexpected events. On Saturday, 11.25 am, I received a phone call from Ms. Day, manager of Pupil. She asked if I could be the new bassist of the band as Dok Sergio takes a new career path. Without hesitation, I offered a nod. Sunday morning, I played golf with Goma, Christine Reyes, and other fellow golfers. Then in the afternoon, I was having my first jamming session with the rock icon, Ely Buendia. This is my blogsite. I have the freedom to hallucinate, as much as I want.

‘Avatar’ tops box office for sixth-straight week (AP)

LOS ANGELES – James Cameron‘s “Avatar” is on a course to sink “Titanic” at the box office.

No. 1 for the sixth-straight weekend with $36 million, the 20th Century Fox sci-fi spectacle lifted its domestic total to $552.8 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. “Avatar” raised its worldwide total to $1.841 billion. That’s $2 million shy of first place behind Cameron’s last movie, the 1997 shipwreck epic “Titanic,” at $1.843 billion.

“It defies all superlatives,” said Chris Aronson, head of distribution for Fox.

The studio said “Avatar” has hit $1.29 billion in international ticket sales, passing the $1.24 billion mark set by “Titanic.” The saga set on the alien world of Pandora is also en route to overtake “Titanic” in domestic sales. After 37 days in theaters, “Avatar” soared past “The Dark Knight” on Saturday to become the second highest grossing film.

“We’re witnessing box office history,” said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com. “We’re watching all of these big records fall, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. ‘Avatar’ is dominating at a time where it has no big summer blockbusters to compete with it. It’s perfectly poised to keep breaking all these records.”

“Avatar” is also positioned to win acclaim during awards season. While the computer-assisted performances didn’t earn any honors at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, it captured the best drama and director trophies at last week’s Golden Globes and is considered a likely best-picture front runner when Oscar nominations are announced Feb. 2.

Screen Gems’ apocalyptic thriller “Legion,” featuring Paul Bettany as an Armageddon-fighting fallen angel, debuted behind “Avatar” at No. 2 with $18.2 million. Fox’s family fantasy comedy “Tooth Fairy,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a hockey player who spreads his wings as a magical deity, took flight in the No. 4 spot with $14.5 million.

Warner Bros. grabbed the No. 3 position with “The Book of Eli” at $17 million in its second week, despite three other films debuting in wide release this weekend. The post-apocalyptic action flick stars Denzel Washington as a traveling prophet who battles a villainous gang leader played by Gary Oldman while protecting the last known Bible.

The medical drama “Extraordinary Measures,” the first film from new distributor CBS Films, opened with a disappointing $7 million in the No. 7 position. The film features Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser as a doctor and businessman who collaborate to develop a drug that will treat a rare genetic disorder affecting children.

“It did well in middle America,” said Steven Friedlander, head of distribution for CBS Films. “This is not a shoot-’em-up or fantasy film. It’s the true story of people doing courageous things, and it’s building good word of mouth. This is the kind of movie that plays well to a family friendly crowd who doesn’t need to see the movie the weekend it opens.”

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Monday.

Nalalanta na ang mga dahon sa puno ng Acacia. Inaalikabok na ang punet-punet na shuttlecock na nakatago sa lalagyan ng badminton racket. Tatlong taon na ang nakalipas ng huli akong maglaro ng badminton. Ngayon, nagkaroon ako ng mga bagong kalaro. Bagong mukha, bagong ugali, bagong pananaw ang aking mga makakasama. Lanang Country Club at 4Play, mga palaruan na kung saan una akong natuto kung paano pumalo ng puting plastic na dahon. Wala na ang mga dati kong ka-badminton. Kung paano lumipad ng matulin ang shuttlecock, ganoon din ang pagpunta nila sa ibang bansa. Australia, Canada, Japan, at Abu Dhabi. Samantalang ako, pinili na manatili sa Pilipinas. Masarap mamuhay sa sariling bayan. Ngunit mapipigilan mo ba ang Pilipino na umalis at mangibang bayan dahil sa kilos pagong na kaunlaran at bulok na sistema sa ating lipunan? Ang iba naman, umalis sa Pilipinas dahil may nais makalimutan at iwanan. Ang iba, naghahanap ng buwelo upang pagbalik dito sa bayan ay tuloy-tuloy na ang pagharap sa mga mamon, este hamon. Ang buhay ay parang larong badminton. Minsan, mas masarap maglaro kapag nasa mabuting playing field ka. Hindi mo alam kung kailan ka mananalo o matatalo, ang mahalaga pinagbutihan mo. Kevin Garnett voted NBA’s top trash talker

According to his peers, Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett (notes) is the top trash talker in the NBA.

Yes, that’s right; the same gentleman who breathes intensity, spits straight venom from the sidelines, and occasionally gets down all fours in a wild attack dog-like defensive stance was voted the L’s worst trash talker.

Who would have thunk it?

Garnett received 62 percent of the vote in a Sports Illustrated poll of 173 league players who were asked to name the worst trash talker in the league.

Kobe Bryant (notes) (7%) was second, followed by Rasheed Wallace (notes) (5%). Fourth on the list was ‘Lil Him Nate Robinson (3%), who tied with Paul Pierce (notes).

I doubt SI gives out awards for throwaway player polls, but if they did, I’d like to imagine how Garnett’s acceptance speech would go.

Different Paradise

There is an influx of mammoth crowd at the mall. What could we expect, it’s the holiday season. I see the rich and feeling rich happily dining at Pancake. The middle and lower class are satisfied with their BreadPan. At least, they have both pan. The only difference, the former has a cake, while the latter, only bread. I see a little girl staring at the elevator. She couldn’t help wonder why these metal ladder keep on running. Yet, I could witness the excitement and joy painted in her face. There is a 250 lbs. man carrying a bunch of food in top of a tray in a fastfood restaurant. He could hardly take a step towards the table. I don’t know if it is because of what he carries, or because of his weight. One thing I am certain, he is at walking speed of 1 step per minute. Everyone seems happy. Outside the mall, I see little kids selling gift wrappers. There are also beggars who positioned themselves earlier than their regular routine of pleading alms. People are celebrating. One party is not enough. Sumptuous dinner, singing, bogchi again, and drinking are common. They are dancing with the music of Lady Gaga and Wonder Girls. I bet most of these people do not know the meaning of Bethlehem and Nativity, stupid. In some parts of the country, Filipinos celebrate with tears, anguish, and animosity. They and their love ones are victims of sea accidents, firecrackers, and impending volcano eruption. Others are enjoying the beach, new and expensive clothes and appliances, and vacation abroad. These are the various faces of the occasion, the time when inequality in life becomes more apparent.
